The image of ‘The French Invasion -or-John Bull, bombarding the Bum-Boats’ by James Gillray has lodged in my imagination ever since I saw it – my wife Alison has a framed copy that she was presented by Kenneth Baker when she made a TV documentary series about Cartoons.
I decided to adapt the image to show a waste stream, instead of a stream of ‘bum-boats’. As I worked with this, I changed the counties to different waste streams, and France to the Planet Earth.
In drawing the waste stream, I found plenty of inspiration online, as can be seen from the Gallery below.
It isn’t quite finished as I need to start ‘polluting’ Plant Earth, probably with cut outs.
